SPACED VOCABULARY ACQUISITION WHILE INCIDENTAL LISTENING BY ESL UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Based on a prior study by Zubenko and Shwedel (2019), the present investigated possible effects of repetition (repeated exposure) incidental acquisition retention 120 English target words 51 Ukrainian-speaking ESL learners at Ukrainian university. The hypothesis was that regular vocabulary while listening would have significant positive effect students’ performance. paper examines results implementation spaced L2 strategy second-year students who were covering same they learned during experiment in previous year. 7 audio lessons created for increasing long-term memory. Participants (N=51) university majoring as second language (ESL) age 17-19. They assigned to three groups, one experimental two comparison. optimal result based interval repetitions influences recall retention. Students used (SVAS) outperformed End-of-Experiment test 84,1 versus 80,6 Comparison group. prove is an efficient part enriching new vocabulary. findings indicate implications this research are connected with effective tool learning lexical units dictionary lessons. Thus, open up possibilities teachers consider implementing dictionaries similar tools assets learning.
